Filler adds volume to the lip. A lip lift changes its proportion: it shortens the distance between the nose and the lip, rolls more of the pink lip into view and restores a natural curve. It is a small operation done under local anaesthetic, and unlike filler, you do it once.
…the space between your nose and your upper lip has lengthened with age; your upper lip disappears when you smile or looks thin however much filler is used; or your teeth no longer show slightly when your mouth is relaxed, which is one of the quiet markers of a youthful face.
If your lips are simply small but the proportions are good, filler or fat transfer may serve you better. This is the operation for proportion, not volume, and telling those apart is what the consultation is for.
The most common. A shaped incision sits along the base of the nose, following its natural outline, so the scar hides in the shadow where the nose meets the lip.
Small excisions at the corners of the mouth for a downturned expression, often combined with the bullhorn technique.
Proportion corrected surgically and volume added with your own fat, when both are lacking.
Millimetres matter here more than in almost any other facial procedure. Removing too much creates a permanently startled look, which is why conservative planning and an experienced surgeon are the whole game.
