Good recovery is not luck, it is planning and patience. A tummy tuck and a Brazilian butt lift are both rewarding procedures, and both ask you to respect the healing process, especially when you are travelling from abroad. Below is a general week by week picture so you know what is normal. Your surgeon's instructions always come first, and every body heals at its own pace.
The first few days
Expect swelling, bruising, tightness and tiredness, this is your body starting to heal, not a problem. After a tummy tuck you will feel tight across the abdomen and will stand slightly bent at first. After a BBL, the golden rule is that you avoid sitting or lying directly on your buttocks, using a special cushion and lying on your front or side, to protect the transferred fat. You will wear a compression garment, and you may have drains. Gentle, short walks are encouraged early to support circulation and reduce clot risk.
Weeks one to two
Swelling and bruising begin to settle, and you become more comfortable and more mobile. Many patients feel ready to move around reasonably well by the end of this period, though you are not back to normal yet. This is usually the window when patients from abroad have their final check before travelling home. Do not book an early flight, flying too soon raises the risk of clots, so travel only when your surgeon confirms it is safe.
Weeks three to six
You gradually return to light daily activities and, for many, desk based work, following your surgeon's timeline. You will likely still wear your compression garment as directed. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting stay off the table until you are cleared, usually around the six week mark, sometimes longer. Pushing too hard here can affect your result.
Months two to six and beyond
Swelling continues to fade over months, and your final shape settles gradually. A tummy tuck scar matures and lightens over roughly a year with good scar care. With a BBL, some of the transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed in the early weeks, which is expected and accounted for in planning. Patience genuinely pays off here.
An honest word on results
No result is guaranteed, and healing varies from person to person depending on your body, the technique, and how closely you follow aftercare. The patients who are happiest are almost always the ones who gave recovery the time it needed rather than rushing it.
