Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) · Istanbul

For the part of weight loss that sleeves have been hiding.

Loose skin on the upper arm does not respond to training, because the problem is skin, not muscle. An arm lift removes it and reshapes the arm from armpit to elbow. It is one of the most honest operations we do: it trades a scar along the inner arm for arms you stop hiding.

Is this for you?

An arm lift is the right conversation if…

…skin hangs from the upper arm and moves when you do; you have lost significant weight and the arms did not follow; you avoid sleeveless clothing regardless of the weather; or the skin has simply lost its elasticity with age. If the tissue you can pinch is loose skin rather than fat, no amount of training will fix it, and we would rather tell you that plainly.

If it is mostly fat with good skin quality, liposuction alone may be enough and leaves almost no scar. That is a genuinely better outcome when it applies, and it is one of the questions your photo consultation answers first.

Approaches

Sized to how much skin there is

Full brachioplasty

For significant loose skin, usually after major weight loss. The incision runs along the inner arm from armpit towards elbow, placed where the arm naturally rests against the body.

Mini arm lift

For limited looseness confined to the upper third. A much shorter incision hidden in the armpit, and an easier recovery.

Arm lift with liposuction

Fat is removed and the skin redraped in the same operation, which is the most common combination when both are present.

There is no way to remove significant arm skin without a scar; anyone promising otherwise is selling something. What a good surgeon controls is where the scar sits and how well it is closed, and that is exactly what you should judge them on.

Recovery, honestly

What the weeks after really look like

  • Your arms are the tools you use for everything, so the first week is genuinely restrictive: no lifting, no reaching above your head, and help with washing your hair.
  • Compression sleeves are worn for several weeks and do much of the work of a clean result.
  • Desk work at around 2 weeks, gym and upper-body effort at 6–8 weeks.
  • The scar is the trade. It sits along the inner arm where it faces the body, it is pink for months, and it fades to a pale line over roughly a year. Scar care starts on day one and we prescribe exactly what to use.
  • Swelling can make the arms look fuller before they look slimmer. The settled result arrives around month three.

Good questions to ask

Arm lift, the honest answers

How bad is the scar, really?
It is a long scar on the inner arm and it is permanent. For the first months it is pink and obvious, then it fades to a pale line that most people notice only if they are looking for it. Every patient who chooses this operation decides that a hidden line is better than sleeves in summer, and that is a decision only you can make.
Can liposuction do it instead?
Only if your skin still has good elasticity and the excess is fat. If skin hangs, liposuction alone will make it hang more. We would rather turn down the smaller operation than sell you a disappointing result.
When can I lift my children or go back to the gym?
Light daily use almost immediately, no lifting for around 4 weeks, and full upper-body training at 6–8 weeks.
Can it be combined with other procedures?
Yes, and it often is, particularly with a tummy tuck or thigh lift after major weight loss. Combining lengthens the operation and recovery, so your surgeon will say what is sensible in one session.
Will it look natural?
The arm is reshaped rather than just tightened, so the result should look like an arm that never had loose skin. Placement of the incision is what separates a good result from an obvious one, which is why we are careful about who operates.
